Vietnam is one of the countries facing stiff social problems like a lack of freedom among citizens. Vietnam suppresses fundamental civil and political rights. Under the one-party rule of the communist party of Vietnam, the government severely restricts freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly, movement, and religion. Authorities have blocked access to sensitive political websites and social media pages and pressured social media and telecommunication companies to remove or restrict content critical of the government or ruling party.
Those who oppose the government or party face police intimidation, harassment, restricted movement, arbitrary arrest and detention, and imprisonment after unfair trials. Police hold political opponents for months without access to legal rights and subject them to abusive interrogations.
The government has also prohibited media freedom and access to information; thus, no private or independently owned media outlet imposes strict control over radio, television stations, and print publications (Duong,2021). It has also restricted religious practice through legislation, registration requirements, and surveillance (Goodman,2017). Thus, religious groups must get approval, register with the government, and operate under the government-controlled board.
Suppose I get a chance to go to Vietnam. In that case, I will harness the power of social media so that all citizens may get a platform to share their views and options and get information concerning their country, thereby enhancing transparency, and they may be able to get freedom.
