It would be challenging for a child to reject the stigma of an Asian name. An Asian name may have no effect at a younger age, but at an older age, the consequences of having an Asian name may be felt. Studies show that most job applicants with Asian names have higher chances of rejection (Quillian&Midtbøen, 2021). Such discrimination issues would make an Asian child unable to reject the stigma of an Asian name, especially at an older age. Like any other parents, parents raising Asian children aim to pass on traditions to their children. Unfortunately, children face stigmatization based on their culture. In college, such children embracing Vietnamese heritage become part of the minority. Most children with Asian names have difficulties following their career paths due to workplace discrimination. It is disappointing that a multicultural country like the U.S still struggles with systemic discriminationin the workplace. It makes it challenging for a child to reject the stigma of an Asian name.
Deviance is one of the issues involved in creating social problems. There are various social problems, such as poverty and crime. The problems are mainly caused by deviance; according to sociology, deviance involves violating social rules. Social rules govern all social members, and when individuals violate the rules, social problems emerge. For example, social members are supposed to respect other people’s property and not damage them. When individuals go against the rule, they cause crimes resulting in social problems. Parental responsibility is also a social rule, and violation of it results in fatherless issues. According to the “Fatherless in 2018” video, most children from fatherless backgrounds engage in crimes and premarital sex. These are social issues that social problems making society a less favourable place to live. Religious and reform movements would help solve the deviance issue for a better society.
