Numerous approaches have been advanced to prevent underage alcohol Use and abuse, some of which are school-based such as involving curricula that are targeted at [preventing the drinking of alcohol. The other approaches that can be advocated include offering extracurricular activities outside of school through social and life skills training which will go a long way in keeping children busy and engaged in reducing exposure and idleness, which leads teenagers to experiment with drugs. Other strategies that can be adopted should involve adolescents in programs designed to prevent alcoholism (Moore et al., 2018). Policy strategies have been used to prevent underage drinkings, such as legally increasing the minimum drinking age and reducing commercial and social access to alcohol by students and youth. There are also family-friendly strategies that are meant to ensure the prevention of alcohol and other drugs. Such measures include home-based parent-child activities, training of skills t the family level, and behavioral training or therapy by the parents to show their youthful children the disadvantages of underage drinking, thus containing the issue as early as possible. Some aspects of the approach include providing consistent discipline and rulemaking, monitoring children’s activities during adolescence, and strengthening family ties and bonds to ensure children’sbehavioral changes can be noticed early enough to address the issue.
In conclusion, underage drinking is one of the behaviors that are hard to change. Therefore, adopting early intervention measures is essential to ensure the behavior is curtailed before it takes root and precedence in children’s life. Alcohol drinking is hazardous both for children and society at large. Therefore, prevention strategies should be adopted to protect many children from underage drinking. Drinking has continued to look attractive to children because of the kind of depiction that it is given and due to adult drinking behaviors. Therefore concerted efforts should be adopted by society to fight underage drinking.
