Role of the Staff Nurse in Evidence-based Practice
Evidence-based practice is gradually becoming the norm in different healthcare organizations. In my organization, it has improved decision-making accuracy and facilitated high-quality care to patients by relying on a scientific basis. The staff nurses have been at the core of implementing evidence-based practice by taking on tasks and duties that improve healthcare safety and patient outcomes. Staff nurses at my company use evidence-based practice by identifying clinical problems, reviewing the literature, assessing the evidence, evaluating the proposed implementation, and assessing the results.
In my organization, nurses start using evidence-based practice by asking about clinical problems that could affect how well they do their jobs and what resources or interventions could help them do their jobs better. Nurses raise concerns and improve opportunities with managers and administrators to focus efforts on required areas (Norwich University Online, 2021). So, in my organization, they are significant for finding the most common clinical problems based on their daily work. As a result, they initiate change processes.
The nurses who work for my company will also sometimes read articles from nursing journals and books to learn how to improve evidence-based practice. Nurses must conduct a literature search and apply the findings to their patients’ problems (Norwich University Online, 2021). This often helps bridge the gap between what is known and what is practiced at the organization.
Our staff nurses occasionally evaluate presented evidence before implementing it in practice. (Duquesne University, 2020) It is the job of nurses to look at the evidence to see if it is true. Notably, the organization implements new ideas based on research rather than hunches and customs. In addition to evaluating research, staff nurses also assess the need for change in practice and project implementation. This ensures that our organization implements only the concepts required to improve our capacity to deliver care.
Finally, staff nurses assess evidence-based practice outcomes in my healthcare organization. The main goals of evidence-based practice (Duquesne University, 2020) are to improve patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs. So, my organization’s nurses often track the needs and goals of certain evidence-based practices and connect them to the results. The goal is to see how things are going and make any necessary changes or suggestions where there are problems.
My colleagues appreciate evidence-based practices and are often eager to implement them in their daily routines. It has helped them be more effective at giving good care, which makes them happier when they see better results for their patients. In addition, they get more appreciation from patients and their loved ones, and as a result, their nursing careers are becoming more meaningful in their lives. Also, the staff nurses in my organization value evidence-based practice because it makes it easier for them to do most of their jobs. They are more efficient in delivering care and can solve care problems rapidly.
Lastly, nurses in my organization often like evidence-based practice because it puts them on the path to continuous professional development and learning for life. They are always looking for ways to improve their performance because they are in a cycle of asking questions, looking for ways to improve, reading relevant literature, and judging how evidence-based learning needs and results are changing. As a result, they are constantly increasing their knowledge and improving their skills.
Staff nurses at my company use evidence-based practice by finding clinical problems, reviewing the literature, evaluating the evidence, evaluating the proposed implementation, and evaluating the results. Notably, they are actively involved in developing critical questions that impede care delivery and always review literature and research that covers and recommends various evidence-based practices. They also evaluate the evidence presented and the hospital’s needs. Lastly, they make sure that care improves by keeping track of the goals and results of evidence-based practices and making changes as needed.
