Introduction
The author of the book Philip Yancy introduces the chapters vividly by coding and describing a correlation from a historical perspective.More importantly, he delves into developing each chapter in his personal life concerning the reasons behind the presentation of matters in the whole text. Throughout the book, each chapter is presented; in addition, they take the reader into the life and times of the mentor. Further, the chapters define the impacts of the mentor on society. According to Yancey, the use of the spiritual guidelines to pass a message of focus on one or more critical issues that he has personally struggled with as far as his Christian faith is concerned, and the approaches made by these mentors seemingly look like a battle with a similar cause.
As the author gives a vivid analysis to the reader about the thousands of reasons why the mentors are significant and how impactful they are in his life, he is brave to illustrate to them and show them how flowed they are. Furthermore, he doesn’t seem to put their issues into hideout but critically shows them the concepts and perceptions of sin, be it adultery, homosexuality, or dying in Christ. However, Yancey’s story describes his struggles and doubts, and his belief in salvation is refreshing. According to the author, most book chapters give the reader summary and insightful concluding paragraphs on the lessons and reviews concerning the concepts he (the author) has derived from the mentors.
However, the book is not devoid of flaws since other chapters seemingly provide existing and occurring overviews, for instance, the concepts addressed in G.K. Chesterton and those of Dr Everett Koop. Critically, these chapters look like they have no complete information. Attractively, most of the chapters representbrilliant ideas that allow the reader to understand the author and his presentation concerning the perceptions of the book. The details provided by the author in the chapters are appealing and give the readers a perfect opportunity to ponder on the crucial questions regarding Christianity, faith, past, and future. In addition, the chapters summarize by providing several essential recommendations from the author on the mentor’s work. From here, the author passionately conveys and motivates the audience to look closely at the individuals and their roles in ensuring that they have changed their worldview and how these concepts can be disseminated to everyone in Christian society.
In my understanding, I appreciate how the author demonstrates how Christians from all walks of life should borrow a leaf from the selected mentors as the author has presented them. In addition, one common theme evidenced across the book is how the author gave the mentors as simple individuals who have chosen a simple lifestyle. In other words, the mentors mainly decided not to go for the world’s materialism but for simplicity and contentment in the journey to spiritual satisfaction. According to the author, the mentors’ lives, as presented by the themes, indicate that the lives of mentors might have been poverty inflicted. Still, they instead decided to help people through encouragement and therefore made significant differences in addition to living a rich and faithful life. For instance, in the chapter on Gandhi, Yancey showed how Gandhi had a positive attitude toward the New Testament and was delighted to admire the time and life of Jesus Christ.
Soul Survivor leaves the reader both inspired and motivated, as shown by the author’s content synthesis of the book. More importantly, the author is left in an open-minded state with fewer questions to ask concerning Christianity and faith. In a more accessible way, the reader is stimulated to seek solutions and develop an open approach to the numerous ways God can communicate to an individual. Furthermore, the reader is stimulated and, at the same time, encouraged to inquire more concerning the mentors mentioned by the author as a way of spiritually enriching their lives. Soul Survivor illustrates how God has the power and capacity to pick an individual who has been subjected to harmful church characters and consequently transform them into a better person of His choice.

Secondly, the book’s author presented each chapter with a specific focus when addressing the specific individual mentors and enriching the readers about the Christian life. More importantly, the most contrasting theme in the book illustrates how God managed to speak to millions of these people in an ordinary. Despite many people’s thoughts about whether God speaks to people in enormous, supernatural, and miraculous ways, the author gives specific examples of individuals like Fredrick Buechneras the lucky ones to meet God in the dullness and bustles of daily life. In this perspective, the author’s perception demonstrates God’s unsuspected workings in our daily lives and the process of going about our routine life chores. In his view, the author shows us that as individuals, we meet God hundreds of times a day during sleep or wake. In sum, it is an important reminder to Christians that we must be ready and open to God’s teachings and the most crucial is to admit that God reveals Himself in many ways.
We can learn many other lessons from Soul Survivor, which presents a unique scenario of listening to God through embracing the marginalized and even getting God’s teachings through the work of non-Christians. According to the author, a well-written and inspiring tribute is written about the thirteen individuals and mentors who ensured his faith was strengthened and shaped to Destiney. As a reader of his book, I think this is an intriguing perception, mainly because most mentors were strangers to the author. In my reaction, this is a strange story since it is unimaginable that an individual can be mentored on the grounds of Christianity and faiths strengthening by people whose identities are unknown. In addition, Soul Survivor inspired me to develop positive thoughts about the people in our lives who have impacted us in one way or another. Many times in life and serving in various capacities in the church, I have only managed to meet a mentor with whom we had a positive interaction and deep conversationin terms of mentorship. After reading the book, I am left with critical questions that need to be addressed soberly; for instance, who are the shapers of our faith and Christianity density? In summary, mentoring programs are, therefore, a critical aspect in the life of a Christian that is worth searching for.In addition, it is a sad reality that many churches across the globe lack the entire mentorship program for the congregations. With a lack of critical mentorship programs in the churches and other places of worship, many faithful are a force to seek alternative mentoring programs.
Conclusion
Specific Christian backgrounds and the strict legal environments, for instance, that which shaped Philip Yancey, can be significant in shaping the destinies of many faithful who, in their wisdom, have not found favor in mentorship. From the revelations and perspective of the author, God has a variety of ways through which He can reveal himself to people. In addition, the power of God in using other people we have no idea about to impact our lives spiritually and faithfully profoundly is deeply and comprehensively covered in the book, “Vanishing byGrace.†The author vividly reminds every one of us that we can meet our mentors from people, including strangers and not specifically the ones we hold high respect for. In addition, as Yancey reminds us, mentorship is a unique concept that is simple and comes from anyone at anytime and anywhere. It does not necessarily have to come from a miraculous point of view. In other words, our mentors should not be people holding similar opinions, deeds, or thoughts to ours, but God has the power and will to use anyone in our midst to make us change our minds spiritually for the better. The individual mentors mentioned in the book provide the author and the reader with an exciting opportunity to hold opinions and personal views of people we meet and chat with in our daily lives. The author, in his opinion, encourages us to grow our faith through other people regardless of our perceptions towards others. The exciting idea is that we should be passionate, refrain from futile pursuits, resist the urge of temptations, and, more importantly, never settle for less.
